We are Vietnamese students in the Bay Area from all the following high schools: Oakland Technical High, Oakland High, Arroyo High, Fremont High, Encinal High, Alameda High, Tennyson High, and Mt. Eden High.  We come together to promote unity and reach a goal of giving back to our community the Vietnamese tradition.  In addition to that, we are striving to establish a diverse environment for everyone.  We realize that most traditions were lost through integration.  Therefore, we want to maintain the Vietnamese cultures through the BAVSA organization by having an annual Lunar New Year celebration for the public.

Our Goal

Our goal is to host an annual Lunar New Year celebration.  It is open to the general public, promoting the Vietnamese Culture, providing traditional foods, performances, dances and other fun activities for both adults and childen.  We will work diligently to accomplish these goals.  We are hope to serve families in the Bay Area.  This project will make a difference in our community through teachings.  This will bring youth together to extend their knowledge regarding their cultures through their peers and along with sharing cultural differences and similarities.  The project will take us five months to prepare, from September 2003 to February 2004.

Our performances vary from cultural Vietnamese dances to contemporary dances.  There will also be singing of Vietnamese songs.    It is a combination of both Vietnamese and American culture.
